Ed Project: Fashion #2

I wanted to share a quick summary of a scholarly journal I got from the CSUF Library called "To Fashion a Self: Dressing in the 17th Century England by Sue Vincent. It had a lot of interesting information about fashion and it's association with wealth and status, some of which I will be sharing with you tomorrow. A lot of which will be left out from my presentation, unfortunately. For example, at some point royal clothing became somewhat of a relic to the common people. As Sue describes, "The royal touch was qualitatively different from that of other people, and by extension some therapeutic power must reside in royal clothing," (Sue). At this time not only was the person of high status or royal status seen above everyone, but their clothing seem to have some special"touch" or "power" over others, which I found interesting. However, it went further into the lives of high status and addressed the kind of gifts and meaning of gifts high class women and men would give one another. Incidentally, giving away a garment could also have a lot of "powerful" meaning even between people of high stature.
